(
noun in Hindi and Urdu, meaning health or wellness)

The SEHAT Project investigates the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on health outcomes, focusing on mental health. There is growing concern about long-term consequences of the pandemic on population health outcomes, stemming from both the illness and from disruptions in the economic, social, and healthcare domains.

We fill an important gap by generating timely data on health trajectories in India. Our two main objectives are:

  1. To better understand the impacts of COVID-related stressors on mental health;

  2. To study resilience and vulnerability to future shocks.

Our project is made possible through a partnership with Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), which has been collecting the world’s largest household panel survey (Consumer Pyramids Household Survey – CPHS) since 2014. The SEHAT project receives exclusive access to longitudinal data on health outcomes that CMIE collects from a quarter of the CPHS panel (over 44,000 households).
